Steven Gentles, P.Eng, President and CEO

After graduating from the Royal Military College of Canada with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Steve spent the first two decades of his career cutting his teeth as an aerospace structures engineer in the defence and commercial aerospace sector. During this time, Steve picked up a Masters in Aerospace Vehicle Design and honed his engineering skills as a stress engineer on a wide range of interesting aircraft and projects. Along the way Steve also gained significant exposure to the aircraft maintenance environment and the fleet life cycle management and support challenges associated with aging aircraft. Although he immensely enjoyed the demands of being a specialist engineer, Steve transitioned into the management world and soon became acquainted with the issues associated with running a 100 person engineering department.

Steve took a turn into the software world in 2004 after establishing AwareBase with co-founder Tyler Pahl. Steve’s management, product design and lifecycle support experience, not to mention his understanding of the AwareBase customer business environment, have been key ingredients in the development of relevant software and provision of essential IT solutions to AwareBase customers.

Tyler Pahl, P.Eng, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Technical Officer

After graduating from the University of Alberta with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tyler spent the first decade of his career in the Aerospace Defence sector working in a large engineering organization designing and substantiating aircraft structural repairs and providing Materials and Processes support to his fellow engineers. During this time Tyler gained intimate familiarity with all engineering functions and related business processes. It was Tyler’s passion for information systems and technology that spurred a career change in 2004 when he co-founded AwareBase with Steven Gentles.

Tyler’s intimate understanding of the AwareBase customer engineering environment coupled with his insightful nature and information systems knowledge result in the development of world class AwareBase software and efficient service delivery to our global customers.
